FINISHED!!
Time to start finishing your Sampler Quilt? If you’ve pieced all your 12 blocks, I’m certain you’ve already been playing with your layout and you’ve probably come up with a couple (if not a few) possible layout options on your own.
I want to share my layout with you including the coordinating block/month numbers…
There are four pieced sections…
You will notice that the 4 pieced sections in my layout are identical (divided by color) ~ there are 2 full and 2 half blocks in each section, in the same order. They are all simply rotated in a different direction. If you decide to follow this layout shown above:
1) piece all 4 sections
2) piece 3 bottom columns/sections together
3) add top row/section.
or you could position all the rows/sections horizontally shown below in option 2…
You can move around the blocks in each row to come up with a new layout.
Here is a third option shown below. The two blue rows are identical and the two purple rows are identical.
There are several ways you can put these blocks together… do what suits YOU! I’ve really enjoyed offering this Block of the Month, thanks so much to everyone who took time to send me messages, comment on posts and add pics to the flickr pool (Maureen!). I love my quilt (yes I’m keeping this one!) and I hope you love yours too!

Hi Sherri – I love this scrap happy sampler so much that I purchased the complete pattern from Craftsy. The pics in the pattern are fabulous and will be a great aid to me and I love the colors you used in your version. I know this is made from scraps but I’m wondering if you have a summary sheet that tells me how much total fabric I will need? I know I can go through and add it all up but before I do that, I thought I’d ask. I’m planning to use the same shade of white for the back ground and I’ll be adding sashing between the squares to enlarge it to fit my granddaughters queen size bed – any advice on the sashing? I’m hoping by using the same shade of white that the blocks will look like they’re floating. I can’t wait to get started – your quilt is gorgeous!
Thanks so much for your purchase and your nice comments. I don’t have a summery of fabric since it was all just scrap fabric. If I was going to start again and didn’t have any stash I’d probably purchase a variety of fat quarters (maybe 10?) or some 1/4 -1/3 yard cuts and 1.5-2 yards background fabric to get started. White sashing would work great, I think you’ll know better when your blocks are done, then you can visualize better. Please share some pics! :)
I have used almost 3 yards of background fabric… havent even started the border yet
I just love the quilt too. Almost finished with it. Love love it
Just bought one of the blocks to try. Love the design and color!
Thanks Karen!
I am (very!) late to your party but just found your book and bought it. Incredible designs! So fun and fresh! My book will be here tomorrow and can’t hardly wait!
Thank you Donna!
