If you’ve been following along, you know I have been doing a bit of traveling these days. And in 2023 I hosted my first Savor Stitch & Flow retreat in Italy! It was such a wonderful experience… I am back with new retreat dates to offer!
Savor, Stich & Flow is a wellness retreat, designed for creatives. Not only will we be taking in some breathtaking views in one of the most picturesque areas of Italy, we will be nurturing our creativity, our minds, and our bodies.
Italy – October 6-12, 2024

I want to share the story of how Savor Stitch and Flow retreats came to be… First, a little about me… In the Fall of 2021, my sister asked me to join her on a yoga retreat in Tuscany… and it wasn’t until I was in Italy, far from my routine, that I realized my need to refresh and renew. It was like taking my first breath of air in what seemed like forever, and I haven’t looked back!
Now, I do better at prioritizing myself and taking the time I need to care for myself. I have learned the importance of self-care, taking time to nurture my creativity and wellness.
Hosting retreats is a passion project for me, and I wanted to offer you something a little different, an experience combining culture, creativity and wellness… I wanted to rethink what a sewing or quilting retreat looks like… what I would want, and what I want to offer you, as a creative.
My hope is that some of you are like-minded and would savor everything this retreat has to offer. It is a chance to step away from your sewing machine and into one of the most picturesque areas of Italy and enjoy being present and connecting with the culture that this beautiful country has to offer.
Think of stretching your creativity and your body, savoring some Italian cuisine, making new friends, exploring some of the villages of Tuscany and Umbria, and flowing through restorative yoga… It will be relaxing and rejuvenating, and all activities are optional.
In the green heart of Italy, we will find the Porsenna Boutique Resort & Spa. It is located where a tobacco drying shed stood in the early 1900s, in the territories that gave birth to King Porsenna.
Located on a hill where a powerful ancestral energy flows, it has now become a place dedicated to complete relaxation. With 14 rooms in an intimate and elegant environment, Porsenna will be our perfect retreat.
For the last three years I have visited Italy in the Fall. You might call me an Italy addict! Fall is the perfect weather in my opinion. The weather is beautiful and warm, but not hot… perfect!!
Located on the border of the regions of Tuscany and Umbria, Porsenna Boutique Resort & Spa is a beautiful resort hotel amid the fields and rolling hills of the countryside and a short distance from Lake Chiusi and Lake Trasimeno. Our group will enjoy an exclusive stay and private book-out of the hotel during our week together.
This will be my third stay at Porsenna. The grounds are gorgeous and the view is breathtaking, it’s truly a dream location.
The hotel boasts spacious guest rooms, each with private ensuite bathrooms, an on-site restaurant, an outdoor pool and spa rooms. Beautiful gardens surround the buildings with various areas for us to relax, as well as stretch out in our daily yoga classes which will be offered to guests. Here, we are surrounded by historic and ancient Etruscan towns, hilltop villages, and storybook scenery. It gives us a perfect home base to explore the area on our day trips and see what this green heart of Italy has to offer.
Surrounding Area and Activities
Our day trips will allow us to experience the many unique landscapes and activities in the area. We will enjoy a week of visits to nearby Etruscan hilltop towns. Savoring some of the flavors of the area. And perhaps (as this will fall near harvest season) get to taste some of the brand new oil for the year. By the middle of the week we will recharge with spa treatments on site and some down time.
We will also spend a day in the famed town of Assisi, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Assisi is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the world, and one of Italy’s most captivating. Assisi is recognized for its postcard-like charm, valuable art and historic buildings, such as the Basilica di San Francesco. This basilica boasts a remarkable array of frescoes (murals) and paintings, rivaling art museums. We’ll have time to enjoy sight seeing, shopping as well and a lunch.
During our week together, we will also find a workshop in the area to learn from and see how some of the quality products in this area are produced. Then we’ll round out the week with a local tasting visit and lunch – how can we be in this part of Italy without partaking in its local flavors! Finally we’ll enjoy in a cooking class to prepare our final dinner together.
Healthful food is part of the retreat, drawing on the in-season harvests from the local area. Daily breakfast is prepared on-site and the itinerary includes most dinners and lunches as well, some at the resort and some incorporating a visit or experience in the nearby area. We’ve carefully chosen delicious and fresh meals from renowned restaurants and chefs that will give guests an expansive experience of the cuisine. Throughout the week we will get to sample several of the regional specialties like olive oil, coffee, wine, cheese! We’ll relish in a range of local cuisine with award-winning chefs and we will have our own hands-on experiences with an Italian cooking class.
To help plan this Italy adventure and bring this retreat to life, I have enlisted the help of a fellow creative spirit and Italy lover, who has experience in corporate event planning. We can’t wait to experience this week together with you!
Sherri is a published author, teacher and quilt pattern designer, best known for her Dear Daughter, Dear Son and Dear Diary quilt series, as well as her Scandinavian designs and whimsical style. She believes that quilting is a form of creative expression, often calling herself an ’emotional quilter’ for quilting her positive thoughts and messages of life into textiles. She loves to add wool, pearl cotton and hand embroidery to her quilts for depth and texture while also discovering that hand-stitching is a therapeutic form of meditation. Designs by Sherri have been published in several books and magazines, and she enjoys sharing her talents with the sewing community. In addition to her creative career, as an adult, she discovered yoga and later became certified in yin-yoga and Thai-massage. She has combined her love of textiles, yoga, travel, and mindfulness into one Italy retreat that will bring peace to your senses (la pace dei sensi).
Denise has been sewing and creating art since the age of ten when her aunt gifted her a craft kit. From hand made Christmas ornaments, paint sets, fabrics and all things crafty she was inspired by her aunt to create and explore all forms of art, and found her passion for creativity. At the age of twenty-five she found her love for textiles and a quilter was born. She’s a self-taught, award-winning quilter, beginning in a very traditional style and moving into primitive design before finding her signature style of wool applique. More recently, inspired by her friend Barbara who “brought her over to the bright side of fabrics” her latest work reflects her love of color. Denise brings her bright spirit, creativity, attention to detail and experience in corporate event planning to our retreat. And with a newly found passion for travel and all things “Italy” she is devoted to enjoying her best life… living la dolce vita!

A week full of fabulous sights, food and new friendships! Each day was an adventure as we toured and enjoyed a new small town. Special dinners, pizza under the grape vines, historic town walking tour, wine and olive oil tastings, artisan workshop tour, farm tour and cheese tasting and pasta making class were some of the highlights. So many memories of a very well planned and executed week! So thankful and happy I was part of Sherri’s amazing trip to Italy!!
