May’s block of the month is a favorite of mine. The New York Beauty block uses paper piecing and curved piecing.
If you’ve been following along I hope you’ve learned some new things along the way. What’s great about doing a sampler is trying many techniques and sometimes working out of your comfort zone. If you never make this block again, you will at least understand the technique behind how to assemble this ‘Beauty’-ful block. Plan out your colors or just make it scrappy. I decided to make mine resemble a color wheel – I love how it came out!
One of the items on the supply list for this block is an ‘Add-A-Quarter Ruler’. This ruler is optional but it’s inexpensive and you should be able to find it at your quilt shop or on Amazon here CM Designs Add-A-Quarter Ruler-6″ Yellow.
Thanks again to those of you that have posted your finished blocks or projects already!!! I love seeing all the different colors everyone is using!

Beautiful! I’ve been wanting to make one of these! I love paper piecing and I just finished the Quick Curve Ruler BOM. I’ve learned a lot making your blocks seeing as I’ve never made any of them! My favorite to make so far was the April block but I love looking at all of them especially the star bock! The March block helped me tremendously with applique. I had to do a center medallion block for a top I just finished and it most definitely helped. At first I thought “what the heck have I gotten myself into!”, but I’m really enjoying making all of them and look forward to this months as well! Thanks for your time in putting these tutorials together!
Up til now Joseph’s Coat was my favorite. But this month’s block IS very beautiful. Do I really have to choose? If only I hadn’t committed to finishing WIPs before beginning any new projects. In the meantime I’m drooling while lurking :D
